Deputy Prosecuting Attorney - Major Felonies

The Madison County Prosecutor’s Office is hiring a major felony deputy prosecutor to handle L5 felonies through Murder. Applicants must possess a J.D. and be licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana.

The initial annual salary for this position is between $80,000 – $100,000 depending on experience and qualifications. The position includes PERF, full county benefits, and qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. There is no residency requirement.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney - Level 6 Felonies

The Madison County Prosecutor’s Office is hiring a deputy prosecuting attorney assigned to one or two circuit courts in Madison County responsible for prosecuting Level 6 felonies, related misdemeanors, and major felony revocations. Applicants must possess a J.D. and be licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana.

The initial annual salary for this position is between $75,000 – $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications. The position includes PERF, full county benefits, and qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. There is no residency requirement.

Victim Assistant                           

FLSA status: Non-exempt                           

Employment Status: Full-time

Summary: This individual is responsible for assisting survivors of violent felony crimes through various stages of the criminal justice process. The position entails court accompaniment, providing referrals for survivor needs, explanation, and notifications of court proceedings, and acting as a liaison between the prosecutor and the victim. The goal of the Victim Assistance Program is to ensure victim/survivor empowerment as a priority of program standards.

Job Description:  

  1. Ensure that victim’s rights are enforced, and that each survivor is heard, especially prior to an offer being made and during a sentencing or post-conviction release.
  2. Keep survivors informed of court dates and potential resolutions to each criminal case and explain the legal process clearly.
  3. Perform routine administrative duties including preparing mailings and correspondence to victims, documenting case activities, and tracking demographic data.
  4. Confer with law enforcement and other external agencies on the status of cases and provide referrals as necessary based on survivor needs.
  5. Act as a liaison between the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and the survivor.
  6. Accompany survivors to court and provide updates regarding the ongoing status of criminal proceedings in the instance that a survivor cannot attend.
  7. Ensure that each survivor is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect by providing a friendly and welcoming “survivor first” environment.
  8. Make referrals to appropriate agencies and public services within the local community.

Job Requirements

    Demonstrated ability to provide and adhere to confidentiality and maintain ethical conduct

    Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written form, being sensitive to survivors of violent crime

    Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask and be flexible.

    Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.

    Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field preferred; however, individuals working toward a degree or with prior related experience may be considered.

    Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and victim rights laws preferred.

    At least one year experience in providing direct victim services preferred.

Physical Demands: An employee is required to speak and hear daily. This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including a computer keyboard and a commercial printer.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Employee may be required to work past 4 p.m. on days that court sessions and jury trials run over.
